What would your own personal tea taste like, if you were the one to design it?

Located in the suburb of Northcote in Melbourne (20 minutes from CBD), join Ruan (your host and qualified tea sommelier) in an experience to learn about the history and production of teas while sampling a range of them for yourself.

Originating from China, tea has since become a popular and everyday drink around the world. But tea is not just a beverage made by steeping any plant material in water. To be considered authentic tea, the plant has to come from the tea plant (also known as Camellia Sinensis). The different types of tea such as White, Oolong, Black and Puerh come from how the tea plant is grown, which part of it is harvested and how it is then processed.  Using any other plant material in water (such as peppermint or chamomile) is called a tissane.

We were introduced to these concepts as we sampled a selection of 5 different teas or tissanes, and proceeded to smell various botanicals (teas, flowers, seeds, leaves etc.) to decide what to put in our own blend.

With over 35 different options of fruity, spicy, floral and earthy notes to mix and match, my blend included a black tea, with earthy notes of wattle seed, valerian root and liquorice root.
