Apples are ripe for the picking at Tanbella Orchard in Canberra.
Established in the 1970s, the orchard grows over 50 varieties of apples! This includes a range of heritage apples, alongside the well-known varieties seen in the shops.
In Australia, apples are typically harvested between February and June, before the trees go dormant for the Winter.
There is more than just apple picking here. Visitors are welcomed to enjoy the beautiful grounds ... Relax in the grassy picnic areas, visit the koi pond, or browse the seasonal produce available for purchase from their own vegetable gardens. We loved drinking the freshly pressed apple juice from the coffee cart, and sampling the variety of dried fruits and jams.
It is free entry to the grounds, however there is a $7 entry fee for apple picking. Fruit picked is priced per kilogram.
It is a lovely spot to explore in the Pialligo area during these Autumn months.
