See the city from a different view.
For my birthday, I was excited to receive a gift to do a kayaking experience with Kayak Melbourne.
Paddling in pairs, the City Sights Tour took us on a scenic journey around the heart of Melbourne. We travelled under the Princes Bridge, past Flinders Station and Polly Woodside Tallship at South Wharf, into the Docklands precinct and Yarra’s Edge Marina. AWith a break in between, we finally travelled back upstream to Crown Casino and the South Bank district. We had two guides for our group of 16 who shared stories and facts about the city as we moved along to the different landmarks.
Did you know that Melbourne used to have a waterfall where Queen Street Bridge stands today? Back then, we had fresh water above and salt water below the waterfall, before it was demolished by dynamite in 1883.
It is certainly a fun way to spend an afternoon in the Melbourne city. If you are new to kayaking, the experience is beginner-friendly as they teach you on the day. All paddling equipment (including life jackets) are provided so you can bring a set of comfortable clothes and sunscreen. The kayaks used were sea kayaks which felt extremely stable for the flat water around the city.
