Found amongst the Yarra Valley region is the town of Healesville - visit for a daytrip or a stopover - it is a 1 hour drive from Melbourne. Known for Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary and various boutique shops, there is also Matilda Bay Brewery.
From the makers of recognised names in craft beer (think, Little Creatures, Alpha Pale Ale, Fat Yak), Matilda Bay have some award winning beer. Walk through the beer hall where you can see the history of the business, from its origins in Perth, to where it is now. The beer hall and view of the beer tank area is always open for the public to see. Guided brewery tours are also available for booking on Saturdays for those interested in going behind the scenes.
We spent a late afternoon here enjoying some drinks and food. Why not try a beer paddle ($15) to taste test four drinks of your choice from their range? Featured are the Matilda Bay Dogbolter Winter Ale, Alpha Pale Ale, Owl Original Ale and Redback Summer. Also available are the Saison, Helles Lager and Cherry Saison. These are all made onsite at Matilda Bay, Healesville.
The brewery is 100% powered by renewable energy and certified carbon neutral since 2021.
