Enjoy a picnic on the lawns of Domaine Chandon with a hamper and drink in hand.
Visiting the beautiful Yarra Valley (1 hour from Melbourne CBD), there are some things you can expect - good views, quality food and wines. It is home to over 80 cellar doors and many vineyards. Domaine Chandon is Moet & Chandon's only Australian winery. Known for their sparkling wines, Chandon have been in the business since their foundation in Argentina in 1959 by founder Robert-Jean de Vogüé.
The weather was beautiful as we spent the afternoon relaxing in a cordoned off garden area overlooking the vineyard. Light music played from a speaker near the restaurant. A picnic was set up with all the chairs, pillows and tables required to be comfortable as we enjoyed the selection of local produce presented in the picnic hamper. A drink is included, with any additional drinks available at cost.
At the time of writing, the hamper included a curated picnic basket for two, featuring a range of locally-sourced delicacies and a bottle of Garden Spritz to share. This included:
- Organic sourdough baguette, cultured Fitzroy butter
- San Danielle Proscuitto with pickled vegetables
- Citrus marinated Mount Zero olives
- Roast beetroot hummus with macadamia dukkah
- Chicken miang salad, toasted peanuts, lime chilli dressing served with betel leaves
- Local cheeses with fennel lavosh, toasted walnuts and quince paste
- Fresh local strawberry salad with baked vanilla and orange cheesecake
It was a memorable afternoon enjoyed with a friend.
